2016-12-31NPFirst Steps began efforts to expand the Soymilk and Sprinkles programs into another province and took on a clean water project.
2014-12-31OPIn 2014 First Steps delivered two 1000 litre soymilk storage tanks, 40 soybeans grinders, 65 metric tonnes of soybeans and 100 stainless milkcans. Additionally, two super-size VitaCows, 3 VitaGoats, spare equipment parts, 225 metric tonnes of soybeans, 3.1 micro-nutrient Sprinkles and 12 metric tonnes of dried soup mix were either ordered or the shipment was in progress at the end of 2014.
2013-12-31OPFirst Steps is currently feeding more than 100,000 children a daily cup of nutrient-rich soymilk in North Korea.In 2013,First Steps delivered 3 large soymilk processing machines(SuperCows),400 metric tonnes of soybeans,almost5 million micro-nutrient sachets for babies and women,100 stainless milk cans,3 containers of relief goods including multi-vitamins,dried soup mix,apple chips,canned foods,baby blankets and knitted items.In 2004,First Steps began working with North Korea's Institute of Child Nutrition to introduce micro-nutrient Sprinkles to prevent anemia and micronutrient deficiences that put infants,young children and pregnant women at increased risk of early mortality,disease and disability.In the comunities where First Steps distributes Sprinkles,health-care professionals attest that Sprinkles are reducing deaths due to pneumonia and diarrhea,the two main causes of death for children age two and under.FS also continues to work with primary care clinicsto deliver Sprinkles.
2012-12-31OPFirst Steps is now feeding more than 90,000 children a daily cup of nutrient rich soymilk in North Korea. In 2012, First Steps delivered 10 soymilk processing machines (VitaCows), 280 tonnes of soybeans, 1.5M baby micro-nutrient Sprinkles sachets, a Sprinkles packaging machine, 2 metric tonnes of multi-nutrient premix for women and 4 containers that contained relief goods including (canned meat, fabric, medicines, scarves, dried soup, dried apple chips etc). In 2004, First Steps began working with North Korea's Institute of Child Nutrition to introduce micro-nutrient Sprinkles to prevent anemia and other micronutrient-deficiencies that put infants, young children and pregnant women at increased risk of early mortality, disease and disability. In the communities where First Steps distributes Sprinkles, health-care professionals attest that Sprinkles are reducing the number of deaths due to pneumonia and diarrhea in children age two and under. First Steps also continues to work with primary care clinics to deliver micro-nutrient Sprinkles.
2011-12-31OPIn 2011, First Steps continued to improve its soy milk program and delivered 430 tones of soybeans (to supplement the local supply)and also some relief good such as canola oil, sugar and other items to orphanages and day care centres in Nampo and Wonsan, North Korea. First Steps also continued to work with DPRK's Institute of Child Nutrition to expand the micro-nutrient Sprinkles program for pregnant women and babies to prevent anemia, malnutrition and other diseases. In 2011, we delivered 3 million sachets of Sprinkles.
2010-12-31OPIn 2010, First Steps continued to improve its soymilk program, delivering five new Vitacow (food processing) machines, 200 stainless milkcans and 400 tonnes of soybeans (to supplement the local supply). First Steps continues to daily reach more than 80,000 children with a cup of protein-rich soymilk and other soy-based foods. First Steps also continued to work with DPRK's Institute of Child Nutrition to expand the micronutrient Sprinkles program for pregnant women and babies to prevent anemia, malnutrition and other diseases.

2009-12-31OPFirst Steps continued to expand its existing soymilk program in 2009, adding 5 VitaGOat and 15 VitaCow food processors to its existing stock. And we sent 500 tons of soybeans to boos the soymilk supply in North Korea. All together, these machines provide daily cup of soymilk to more than 80,000 children. FS is currently reaching more than 70,000 pregnant and lactating women and babies with Sprinkles.
2006-12-31NPFIRST STEPS INTRODUCED A SPRINKLES PROGRAM IN 2006. SPRINKLES IS THE ACCLAIMED MICRO-NUTRIENT POWDER DEVELOPED BY DR. STANLEY ZLOTKIN AT TORONTO'S HOSPITAL FOR SICK CHILDREN. IT COMES IN A SACHET AND IS SPRINKLED ON ANY FOOD.FS PURCHASED 1.5 MILLION SACHETS OF SPRINKLES AND THESE ARE NOW BEING DISTRIBUTED TO 11,000 MALNOURISHED PREGNANT WOMEN AND 11,000 MALNOURISHED CHILDREN.

THE DPRK AND INSTITUTE OF CHILD NUTRITION CONDUCTED: NUTRITIONAL SURVEY AND WAS FULL OF ENTHUSIASM FOR PABLUM. FIRST STEPS ALSO DELIVERED A DONATION OF MEDICINES FROM HPIC TO THE KIM MAN YU HOSPITAL
2001-12-31OPNO PROGRAMS WERE CARRIED ON DURING THE FISCAL PERIOD. FIRST STEPS HAD NO LIABILITIES AND MADE NO DISBURSEMENTS. FIRST STEPS ISSUED LESS THAN 10 TAX RECEIPTS AND HAD SOME ASSETS.
