It was a great place with lots of friendly people. Rooms were nice and clean and staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of activities to keep you busy. I would definitely recommend it and plan on coming back next year!

I spent over 24 months at this facility, and in response to all the rumours of conditions there, I will say the following. 1: Yes the jail is constantly locked down. Mostly due to correctional officers, or C.O.'s as we call them, calling in sick, thereby understaffing the building and making it a security risk to let us out of our cells for anything other than emergencies. Other reasons for lockdowns are weapons searches, or maybe an increase in violent incidents. 2: Yes the food is horrible. Not just for its taste, but for the manor in which it is cooked. They steam all the meals. That means everything is soggy and wet and void of nutrients. 3: The C.O.'s are even bigger assholes than 90% of the inmates, 90% of the time. 4: The air is recirculated and all surfaces are hard. That means there is a whole s**t load of dust, lint and dead skin floating in the air. They install filters on the air intakes and we can see them...they fill up with dust and everything else in a matter of hours then they stop effectively working. The air is atrocious. 5: They give out peoples medications at ridiculous times. Grown men and women being given sleeping pills at 530pm, yet there is an intensely bright twin-bulb fluorescent light in your cell, which has white painted walls which reflect a whole lotta light, and the lights stay on until 1100pm. Can you explain the logic in that to me? I could continue but my hands are tired from typing.

I have a friend stuck there thanks to Toronto Police Services Finest. He has Chron's and they aren't feeding him food he can keep down. They aren't delivering messages to him. They aren't giving him any access to phones, or anything else as far as I can tell. I can't believe it's gotten this shitty in Canada for a person who has yet to be convicted of any crime. Saddest part is, if I had the money for even a halfway-shitty lawyer the case would have probably been dropped months ago. Welcome to the Banana Republic of Canada. Where the poor go to jail, and the rich crooks walk free.

I am complaining about Maplehurst Correctional Complex – Milton. My son is there in unit one. we don't have any way to contact him, this all month I daily called them asking about visitation; and every day they say there's no visitation today!!! We don't know how to contact him or see him!! is this Canada?? Is this how you guys dealing with sick people who have psychiatry problems?

Horrible facility. Always in lockdown. Even at other jails lockdown you still get visits. Not here though. Heard not much food.
